Most general UX curricula do not educate designers on best practices for meeting the needs of individuals in distressed and/or mental distortion. While I am neither an expert nor a specialist in this field, I did have relevant instruction in psychological first aid (PFA) through my volunteer emergency response training that I could apply to a unique set of use cases presented by the website of an independent licensed marriage & family therapist (LMFT) practice.
In this particular case, I was initially engaged to improve the brand, usability, and styling of the existing website. Recognizing the need for a cohesive web presence that could serve clients representing a wide-range of age, education levels, and psychological circumstances, I recommended an accessibility audit along with my other areas of focus for the website.
